How to host your dream baby shower virtually

January 23, 2022

Did you ever think you would be sitting here contemplating celebrating your child’s life virtually? Did you imagine that you would have a huge baby shower at a hall or backyard with all of the people you love surrounding you? Well, during this pandemic, a lot of moms had to make the hard decision to forfeit their dream in person baby shower for a virtual one. From my experience with attending in person baby shower’s, and hosting my own virtual baby shower, I prefer virtual!!!!

So, relax a little MOM! I am going to tell you how to host your dream baby shower virtually.

Misconceptions

  1. I will not be able to have my dream theme
  2. No one will want to attend
  3. Virtual baby showers are boring
  4. We will not be able to play those fun baby shower games
  5. There may be technical issues
  6. There is no reason to get dressed

I will not be able to have my dream theme

That is completely FALSE!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is still your baby shower and you deserve to have your dream theme.

Pick a spot at the destination you are hosting your shower and make it look how you’ve always imagined. If you planned on hiring someone to do the in person shower, let them decorate the virtual one.

Bonus- IT WILL BE CHEAPER TO PAY FOR SOMEONE TO DECORATE A VIRTUAL SHOWER VS AN IN PERSON ONE! If that is not motivation enough, I do not know what will be lol.

No one will want to attend

I used to hate this saying, but it is true…. If they love and support you, they will show up! So, do not base your decision on hosting your shower virtually thinking no one will show up. Between your family and friends, that is probably well over 10 guaranteed guests. For a virtual shower, sometimes the least amount of people is better! Unless you set up a raise your hand or use the chat rule, a bunch of people can get hectic and loud.

Virtual baby showers are boring

Says who? Think about it this way… if you are planning to invite the same people to your virtual shower as the in person one, and you thought the in person one would NOT be boring.. how would the virtual be boring? If anything, your guests may have more energy online because they did not have to get up and travel to your location.

Also, the host of your shower is important! Make sure the host is friendly and energetic. This will keep everyone engaged and comfortable interacting without wanting to leave.

The host should have a schedule laid out informing everyone of the times each activity will take place. Send this out in advance, so your guests know that on your virtual baby shower date they need 2 hours or so to spend with, your family, and friends. The schedule also gets your guests excited about the activities they are looking forward to.

I still have guests that message me saying they loved my grandfather lol. He had everyone laughing! If you have a family member like this, I suggest you let them host.

Tip – DO NOT OPEN YOUR GIFTS DURING YOUR VIRTUAL SHOWER! It takes up way too much time that could be dedicated to activities and fun! No one wants to sit awkwardly smiling while you open every single gift you received. Save yourself the energy and your guests the boredom!

We will not be able to play those fun baby shower games

FALSE!!!!! We played so many fun games during my virtual baby shower. The key to getting your guests to be fully engaged with these games and have fun is to give out prizes. Remember, these are the people you love and they will love your child. They also spent money on you and your child, so giving them a gift should not be too much to ask for. If you have no idea what gifts to give, keep it simple! We gave 4 $25 amazon gift cards. Everyone enjoyed being able to win something for their participation. I highly recommend prizes!

Below are the games we played.

  1. Guess how many tissue rolls (the squares) wrap around the mommy’s belly
  2. Who knows mommy best
  3. Who knows daddy best
  4. Mommy or Daddy

These games had all of our guests fully engaged! It is also surprising to see which of your guests know you and daddy the best. So much fun!

There may be technical issues

Keep this simple! Use zoom! If you know someone with a zoom package that lasts longer than 40 minutes, ask them to use their account. If not, I paid $16.99 for the month to host longer zoom sessions. This may be a small expense to you if you are saving money by having a virtual shower, so take advantage of that!

Also, ZOOM IS GREAT FOR VIRTUAL SHOWERS! Everyone was able to send in their answers or their comments without worrying about talking over each other. That option is the best!

There is no reason to get dressed

Mom, now I know you did not think I was going to endorse you showing up to your big day in pajamas. I mean, if that is your comfort level so be it. But, if you’ve always dreamed of being dolled up for your shower, STILL DO IT!!!! You will be able to get nice pictures of yourself before, during, and after the shower. Plus, it is pretty nice to hear people compliment you for that day knowing tomorrow you may be in something less appealing because.. PREGNANCY lol! Get cute mama and have fun!

The best parts of a virtual baby shower

Safety

Now that we have gone through the misconceptions, I want to get into the best parts. The main best part is being safe during the pandemic. COVID-19 has been deadly for many people! Gathering people and potentially exposing them to a virus that could kill them is selfish! Especially when this day could be celebrated with just as much fun, love, and excitement virtually.

Easier gift transition

You will not have to transfer all of those gifts from the party to your home! Everyone will be mailing their gifts. This was honestly one of my favorite parts.

SAVE MONEY!!!!!!!

The amount of money I have heard that people have spent on baby showers is CRAZY! Be thankful that you can cut that cost in half.

Just remember Mom’s, no matter what you choose, you can still have your dream baby shower! I hope you all enjoyed this post. See you soon!
